This week Allison and I were able to meet with Dr. Wolfe. We briefly discussed what Allison and I had talked about last week about modeling, making bones, and skinning, as well as Allison’s idea to use an old pair of pants to help figure out where we will need higher densities of polygons. We also spent a fair amount of time discussing Allison’s idea of using a straw, or something similar to help figure out how the different parts of the body are positioned during movements such as a role shift. The straw would act as a normal line and make it easy to see the direction that the legs, shoulders and other parts of the body are moving.
For next week Allison will be looking at how the symmetry modifier works in 3DS Max. We will both work on animating the side inclination from a text on Mimodrame we have been looking at in preparation for a workshop with a mime in the spring. The inclinations show the range of movement of each part of the body as they are moved in isolation in one direction. Our final project for this week is to look at ways of joining meshes. Once we get Paula’s new pants modeled we are going to have to join that mesh with the current upper body mesh. The two meshes will probably have different numbers of vertices along their edges and we need to figure out the best way to join the two.
