To do further testing of the skinning of Paula’s new pants I created a rough walk cycle. Overall the right leg looks good, unfortunately there doesn’t look like there is an easy way to use the right leg weights on the left so over the next few days I need to work on fixing the left leg so it looks more natural.
While constructing the walk cycle I was having difficulty keeping the two hip bones at the appropriate angle to each other while they were being moved. To solve the problem I created a new box and parented both hip bones to it. By rotating this box the hips will remain at the proper angle. I still need to do some playing with the exact hierarchy in the hips/ waist region to figure out what works the best.

We’ve been making good progress on the pants. Paula’s shoes and socks are now weighted and I’ve tweaked the weighting on the pants some so the two meshes don’t intersect. I have started looking at how the mesh moves when twisting side to side. It’s off to a good start although there are still some adjustments that need to be made. Weight data from the right leg has been transferred to the left leg. Over the next week I plan on constructing a walk cycle animation to see and fix any weighting that still needs adjustment. Some rough experimentation has shown that movement around the waist still is producing some issues.
